How long O Lord
will You forget me,
Your child
forever?
How long will You shield Your face from me?
How long must my heart be
weighed down with sorrow all day?
How long will I be left
with no one to counsel me,
advise me,
guide me,
except
my own soul?
When each morning plops
little by little
morsels and masses of misery
into my swelling eyes
Sealing them shut
Devoid of light
forcing me to turn
my darkened eyes further inward?
ushering in the darkness
When death feels like home
A perverse comfort
intimately known by the shattered spirit.
How long will the incalculable voices
echo too loudly
over Your tender whisper?
My dry bones have parched me of solace
Instead they violently shudder
of being hunted.
When my lungs are suffocated with grief,
I trust in You, my greatest defense
For Your voice, though it stands alone
Is distinct from all the rest
Thus, it can always be heard
Your promise
drowns out each debilitating voice with an undying hope
One that dries the eyes
They flicker open as a lamp enlightened
One that quenches the bones
with Your Living Water
Stilling them with Your goodness
One that inspires air into my lungs
permitting my heart to sing
of Your glory
of Your steadfast love
of Jesus my Savior
For You have never
ever
ceased to be
good to me.
